Gong girl in Top Model final

Gong girl in Top Model final

25/06/2008 5:00:00 AM
The Illawarra's Demelza Reveley has strutted her way into the grand final of Australia's Next Top Model.

The Wollongong high school student made it through to the top two in last night's episode of the pay channel reality television program.

Demelza, 16, will compete against Sydney's Alexandra Girdwood for the coveted title, in a live final at Luna Park's Big Top next Tuesday.

If Demelza takes the crown, she will be the youngest contestant to win the program, which is syndicated internationally.

On a recent episode shot in New York, Demelza's weight was criticised by modelling agencies for being too "bottom heavy".

Earlier in the series Demelza came under attack for teaming up with Kiama's Alyce Crawford and Woonona's Rebecca Jobson and bullying fellow contestant Alamela Rowan, who fled in tears.

The incident led to judge Charlotte Dawson dubbing the trio the Dapto Dogs.

Dawson also criticised Girdwood, 21, for having collagen implants in her lips before a fashion shoot.

The queen of the catwalk will be decided by public vote and will win 12 months' representation by Priscilla's modelling agency, a trip to New York to meet international agencies, a contract with Napoleon Perdis cosmetics, an eight-page fashion shoot with Australian Vogue and a new car.

A 16-year-old girl in a high-stress invironment - where they are no doubt encouraged to be a bit bitchy - has made a few mistakes.

She and the others have apoligised for their errors. Why don't you actually give this kid a bit of credit for what she has done?

Honestly Demelza is mature beyond her years, but she is still only 16 and it is quite normal behaviour for a 16-year-old, any age really when in that environment living in a house with 12 other females you are in competition with.

I commend Demelza for the way she has handled herself and I am hoping she takes the competition out, she is beautiful and she deserves it.

Exactly, FFS, I will give her credit for what she has done, pity she was not more sincere in her apology for assaulting the other contestant. I

I hope you are this kind when you are a recipient of this type of behaviour and then consider.

Oh, they have achieved so much, I won't judge them so harshly!

Demelza's behaviour was similar to a dog in a pack preying on the so-called weak or not considered normal.

Demelza is strikingly beautiful on the outside, shame she is not beautiful from the inside.

This is what we are remembered for, beauty from the inside.

I don't know why as a society we reward or accept bad behaviour.

It would send the wrong message if Demelza, a bully, wins. Demelza, Rebecca and Alyce should have been eliminated immediately to send a clear message bullying is not tolerated. There's plenty of evidence about how bullying and harassment is not good for the victim's emotional and physical health.

In the scheme of things the contestants have not achieved anything, other than recognition and vast experience within the modelling industry. As to Demelza's behaviour to be normal for a 16 year old, is not acceptable. Anyone who bullies is a very insecure person who needs empowerment by belittling others so they can feel good about themselves.

I am glad I raised my eldest son who was not afraid to defend a student on a bus who were being bullied. Now that is a behaviour to be encouraged.

Well, hopefully she'll be on the receiving end when she enters the real modelling world where I'm sure things will be a lot more cut-throat. If she wants to be judged on her physical appearance as she clearly wants to by participating on a show such as this, I say we judge her on her appearance - after all, who looks at a model to see her 'real' personality?

If Australia's Next Top Model goes on like season four, I am losing interest in it all together.

We suspect that the program deliberately let Alexandra and Demelza get to the final, so Demelza has no competition and can easily win the title.

We saw the dark horse Sam and Caris, those two have more unique and attractive features than Demelza.

Apart from bullying other girls, Demelza is not a top model. What are the judges and hosts thinking? What a shame!
