Shellharbour City Council's new administrator vows to "guard against any repetition" of the dysfunction that has brought the city down.
Former Bega Valley Shire general manager David Jesson is looking for a home to rent in Shellharbour, where he will likely remain as the council's administrator until 2012.
The NSW Government declared all elected offices of Shellharbour City Council vacant on Wednesday, based on the recommendation of Commissioner Richard Colley.
Mr Colley headed up the public inquiry into the council last month and recommended an administrator take over for four years.
He issued a seven-point task list for Mr Jesson to work through.
Mr Jesson sets foot in the council's administration offices for the first time on Monday afternoon, when he will meet general manager Brian Weir.
He will remain until Wednesday, and then return the following week to take up his new full-time job.
After retiring from his Bega position in August, he's not concerned about being thrown back into the hot seat at a council in trouble.
His general manager's reign in Bega included a stint under an administrator.
"I found it very different. Like a lot of people you somehow miss the existence of the elected body."
He insisted he wasn't as relaxed now as he sounded.
"Last week I was retired," he said.
"It's going to be a significant challenge. I'm really anticipating rolling the sleeves up and getting into it."
