It started out as "nothing major", but Wollongong coach Eric Cooks is becoming increasingly worried about centre Larry Davidson's nagging knee injury.
After sitting out the August 16 trial loss to the Sydney Spirit, Davidson was confident of suiting up for last Friday's rematch at Penrith after getting through daily training sessions.
But he watched the game in street clothes after waking on Friday morning and realising his knee was still suspect.
"The doctors are saying it's nothing to be concerned about, but the fact that it's still bothering him to some extent is definitely a bit of a concern," Cooks said.
"As far as him coming to Adelaide for the trials, we're still playing it by ear. He's going to go back to the doctors and physios and hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it and get him right to play."
While the Hawks were missing Davidson, Glen Saville and Rhys Martin, the Spirit had everyone on deck aside from Tony Rampton and injured recruit Jason Smith.
Wollongong were up by four at half-time and went on to win 121-118, with Cam Tragardh (33 points, nine rebounds, three blocks) dominant.
"We played fairly well and it was good to get a win under our belts," Cooks said.
"We had quite a few contributors and our three bigs all made good contributions. I was pleased that we won the rebound count (45-44), but we still need to get better.
"Defensively, we allowed them to score too many points."
The Hawks fly to Adelaide tomorrow for a Thursday game against the 36ers at Port Lincoln, before the teams square off again on Saturday on the Sixers' home court.
Martin is still involved with the Rockhampton Rockets in the ABA finals and will move to Wollongong after the weekend.
Beijing Olympian Saville won't play on Thursday, but Cooks said there was a chance he would fly to Adelaide for Saturday's trial.
