Hawks unveil a new slogan

24/07/2008 5:00:00 AM
The Wollongong Hawks have unveiled a new slogan for their assault on the 2008-09 NBL crown.

After running with the "Never Say Die" catchcry for two seasons, the league's last remaining foundation club's new motto is "Pride and Passion".

With a fresh naming rights sponsor (ahm) on board, an improved playing roster and new administration team in the front office, the Hawks management is confident the club is on the verge of an exciting era.

"As a club we've tried to encapsulate the attitude of the team, community and its dedicated fans," Wollongong chairman Richard Clifford said.

"We believe we have the most passionate fans in the league, and the pride in the club and its strong history is unwavering. We have a lot to be proud about, especially being the NBL's only remaining foundation team."

Following a long run of play-off appearances, the Hawks missed out on post-season action over the past two seasons.

The club nearly folded in December and January, but the future looks much brighter and the Hawks are determined to build their fan base through increased membership numbers.

"We have a lot of events planned for the season and really want to concentrate on thanking the community for their support," Hawks operations manager Jess Tory said.

"There'll be barbecues, parties and special appearances throughout the year for our fans. We want to give them plenty of opportunities to meet the players and their fellow supporters who share their passion."

For membership details visit the Hawks website at www.hawks.com.au or call the office on 4229 7722.

The Hawks completed their playing roster by signing 29-year-old American Dusty Rychart earlier this week.

The former Victoria, Adelaide and Brisbane forward will move to the area in three weeks.

"I can't wait to play in Wollongong, the atmosphere there is great," Rychart said.

"The team will be competitive, there are young guys keen to learn and the veterans like Glen Saville and Mat Campbell make it a good mix. I know Kavossy (Franklin) well and I'm excited about the move."
