Park profit from Uni lapse

Albion Park took a firm grip on the Illawarra men's hockey minor premiership after title rivals University suffered a shock loss in round 15 on Sunday.

Tim Burnham scored five goals for the Park as the premiers beat fourth-placed Robertson 8-3 at Croom Road, while Glen Isedale scored twice for Mittagong in their upset 4-3 win over University at Welby Field.

The result gives Park a five-point buffer at the top from the Students with six rounds remaining.

Third-placed Wests moved within four points of Uni after a 8-1 hammering of Dapto. Elliott Ashby scored five goals in a brilliant individual display.

Fairy Meadow were given a fright by Bowral before winning 4-3.

In this Sunday's round 16, Wests take on Albion Park in the match of the day at Lindsay Mayne Oval (3pm).

Uni host Fairy Meadow in an important game for both clubs, while in the double-header at Welby Field, Bowral take on Mittagong (2pm) followed by Robertson vs Dapto (3.15pm).

Meanwhile, Avondale earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Jamberoo to consolidate top spot in the combined Illawarra/South Coast women's division one competition.

Avondale have a five-point lead over The Rail (1) who beat Fairy Meadow 3-0.

Defending Illawarra premiers University coasted past Dapto 4-0, while Emma Cobbin scored twice for Albion Park in a 4-0 win over Rail (2).

In the other match, Jess Cramp scored twice for Figtree in a 4-1 triumph over Gerringong.
