Wollongong duathlon a challenge for all ages

15/08/2008 5:00:00 AM
The 2008 Wollongong Off-Road Duathlon will take place at Towradgi on September 7.

The run/ride/run format will be raced over relatively flat terrain in a three-stage event between Bellambi Point in the north and Puckey's Estate in the south.

It will provide an interesting alternate fun challenge for all ages and testing the fit and the not so fit.

The off-road duathlon is an activity that will help shape an active and fun way of life.

Tourism Wollongong and Wollongong Conference and Events will support the event.

The uniqueness of the off-road duathlon lies in the terrain such as bush and sand dune tracks, sandy beaches, as well as existing cycle paths and, for something different, the experience of two shallow water beach crossings.

The full course duathlon should prove to be a fun but challenging course for those participants 16 years and over comprising a 6km run, followed by an 8km off-road mountain-bike ride and then a final 3.5km run.

The junior short course duathlon course is specially designed to challenge the 13 to 14 age group and comprises a 3.5km run, followed by a 7km bike ride and finishing with a 2km run.

The junior have-a-go duathlon, a shorter variation of the junior short course, encourages children from ages 10 to 12 to participate in a duathlon. It comprises a 2km run, 5km bike ride and 1.5km run.
