Wendell Sailor showed he is still Super Dell after all.
The former Broncos superstar is yet to lose a game since making his rugby league return from a two-year drugs ban earlier this year, whether playing for St George Illawarra, Jim Beam Cup team Shellharbour or with Burleigh in the Queensland Cup.
Last night he scored a try and helped deny Brisbane a try late in the game as the Dragons held on to win 24-20 at Suncorp Stadium.
Sailor savoured victory against the Broncos and former team-mate Darren Lockyer, who played his 298th career game for Brisbane, breaking the club record.
"It was very enjoyable," Sailor said.
"To play at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night - it doesn't get any bigger.
"I've got a lot of good mates at the Broncos and on a big night for Locky, I was happy to spoil his party."
Captain Mark Gasnier produced a superb double while Super Dell showed he's still got it in the NRL as the Dragons produced a stunning second-half surge.
With their place in the top eight hanging in the balance, Gasnier and halfback Ben Hornby took the game by the scruff of the neck to turn a 12-6 half-time deficit into a 24-12 lead.
Then the Dragons held on for dear life.
Brisbane, stung into action, came storming back in the closing stages.
A Reece Robinson try was denied by referee Jared Maxwell for a forward pass when the video referee decision was referred back to him.
Then prop Dave Taylor was held up over the line on one occasion and lost the ball attempting to score in the corner.
Finally the Dragons cracked in the 78th minute when centre Joel Moon dived over, but by that stage it was too little, too late.
Gasnier may be bound for French rugby union next year, but his focus was on leading a Dragons' finals surge at Suncorp Stadium.
Gasnier and Hornby led the charge as the Dragons scored three second-half tries.
NSW Origin centre Matt Cooper was outstanding too.
And then there was Dell's performance.
Searching for answers, searching for a way back from a 12-0 deficit, St George Illawarra was sparked to life by a brilliant piece of strength and determination by the 34-year-old dual international.
In front of the Suncorp Stadium crowd which once worshipped the Broncos and Queensland Origin colossus, Sailor was primed to prove himself.
And on the back of some mediocre hit-ups in the opening exchanges, Sailor and the Dragons finally roared to life in the 34th minute.
A sweetly timed cross-field kick by Ben Rogers, who was impressive in his first game for his new club since switching from South Sydney mid-season, provided Dell with the perfect opportunity to fly high.
Sailor gathered the ball in and then monstered Broncos winger Reece Robinson on a powerful run to the line, celebrating with an Olympic-sized slam dunk of the ball in in-goal.
"I think everyone knows I'm a passionate bloke," he said of the try celebration.
"I just wanted to score - the last time I nearly scored (Newcastle halfback) Jarrod Mullen ran me down."
