Wollongong FC keeper Justin Pasfield is "quietly confident" of being picked in the Australian team for the Beijing Olympic Games after a two-week camp that ended yesterday.
Pasfield returns home today after the Australian under-23 camp that included two friendlies against the Chilean under 23s in Darwin and a week of training on the Central Coast.
The 18-man Olyroos squad for Beijing will be named on Friday.
"I'm feeling really good about my chances," Pasfield said.
"I'm in a good position - there will probably be two keepers going to Beijing and another on stand-by.
"Hopefully I have done enough over the past couple of weeks - I'm quietly confident."
Pasfield started and played all 90 minutes of Australia's first match against their Chilean counterparts, a 4-3 loss at Darwin Football Stadium on Friday night.
"They scored three goals from dead-ball situations and some of them were absolutely freakish," Pasfield said.
"I think I did well - I performed solidly.
"At times during the match I thought we were brilliant."
Pasfield sat out the second friendly, a 1-1 draw on Sunday night. Irish-based stopper Chris O'Connor took the gloves for that match.
Pasfield was encouraged about his Beijing chances after a post-match conversation with Olyroos coach Graham Arnold.
"It was good on my behalf that he picked me and had the confidence in me to play the first game," a hopeful Pasfield said.
"Two of the boys who came up as keepers didn't play at all, but I got to start and play all of the first game, which is a good sign."
Pasfield suspected his chance to play in the first match came off the back of a week's hard work at Gosford before the Darwin friendlies.
"We were hammered on the Central Coast - we worked very hard," Pasfield said.
"I have been working my guts out for the past two weeks, correcting things that I have needed to.
"All I can do is wait for Friday - hopefully it's good news."
Arnold said the camp was "extremely successful" in helping select the squad for Beijing, which can include up to three players over the under-23 age limit.
"Now my coaching staff and I have a very difficult task in selecting the final squad that will go to the Olympic Games," Arnold said.
