Wollongong FC coach John Turner remained undecided yesterday about whether Beijing Olympics trialist Justin Pasfield or new signing Michael Turnbull would be in goal tomorrow against Blacktown City at Crehan Park.
Turner said a decision would only be made after training last night, with both players in contention for the No1 jumper.
Pasfield failed to win back his spot for last Saturday's game against Bankstown City after missing the West Sydney game while in Olyroos camp in Darwin.
Turner said Pasfield wasn't dropped against Bankstown but "given the weekend off"'.
Turner believed his 'keeper "wasn't mentally ready to play" after being left out of the Olyroos squad on the eve of the game.
Wollongong FC signed Turnbull until the end of the season in expectation Pasfield would be named back-up goalkeeper to Shoalhaven-bred Adam Federici for the Olyroos.
But having missed out on the Games, the Mercury understands Pasfield was angry not to return in goal for the Wolves.
Turner would not confirm who would be his No1 tomorrow.
"I'm not commenting on Pasfield," he said. "I'm not going to speculate on the goalkeeping situation. I'll make a decision after training tonight (Friday) which is my normal practice.
"I'll look at both players at training and then make a decision. I'll say this: we have two top-ranked keepers to choose from, which is a fortunate position for myself and the club."
Turner defended his decision not to openly announce Pasfield as his first choice keeper, pointing out that a week earlier he told the Mercury striker Dezi Giraldi would play against Bankstown.
"Dezi didn't play. He had a quad injury but I said on Friday he would play," Turner said.
"Sometimes you have to wait until after training. I can't go around saying who will play and who won't when I don't know the answer."
The tug-of-war between Pasfield and Turnbull has been a huge talking point this week and there is speculation that if Pasfield is not selected against Blacktown he may walk out on the club.
The in-form Wolves are in third spot and could be second by the end of round 20 with second-placed Manly have a tough home game against fourth-placed Sydney Olympic.
While Giraldi will return tomorrow, Lachlan Cahill, who scored the winner against Bankstown, will miss the next two games after being accepted to trial for a second division club in Denmark.
The Wolves will also be without Michael West, still struggling with a leg injury after being the victim of a crude red-card tackle against West Sydney.
In today's other games, Marconi host Sutherland, Penrith are at home to Sydney United. Tomorrow, Manly host Olympic, Bankstown welcome West Sydney and APIA Leichhardt host Macarthur.
