Tarra, Eagles to meet in Bampton semis

18/07/2008 5:00:00 AM
Albion Park White Eagles and Tarrawanna will meet in a much-anticipated semi-final of the Bert Bampton Cup after winning quarter-finals at Ray Robinson Field on Wednesday night.

White Eagles had to come from behind twice to overcome a committed Dapto 3-2 in an entertaining game.

In contrast, Tarrawanna were way too strong for Ruse, winning 6-0.

In game one, the score was 0-0 at half-time before Dapto striker Paul Ryrie opened the scoring in the first minute of a thrilling second half.

Then, in the 52nd minute, the White Eagles equalised through Gerry Peros, but the deadlock lasted just one minute before Nicholas Hardy gave Dapto their second lead of the match.

White Eagles levelled the scores again when Angelo Hajitoffi scored midway through the second half.

With 15 minutes remaining, Jason Miloseski scored the winner.

Sweeper Ricky Goodchild had a strong game for the White Eagles.

In game two, the Tarrawanna Blueys led 2-0 at half-time with goals to Ricky Zucco and Michael Todd.

Midfielder Beau Cropper provided the cross for Alan Costabile to make it 3-0.

Then Costabile was the provider for Kyle Wolsky for goal number four.

Cameron Littler and Vin Musumeci rounded off the scoring.

"Tarra again showed why it is going to be hard to beat in this tournament with a convincing win and six different scorers in this game," Illawarra Football Association director Paul Mahanidis said yesterday.

"The north versus south semi-final promises to be a real cracker of a game."

The quarter-finals continue next week at Terry Reserve on Wednesday when Fernhill take on Cringila Lions in the 6pm game followed by Dandaloo against Wollongong United at 8pm.

Meanwhile, Cringila host leaders Albion Park White Eagles in a huge game for both clubs to kick off round 18 at Crehan Park tonight.

Cringila are fifth and can leapfrog into the top three by beating a strong Albion Park team. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
