Wolves renew hunt on Saturday night

15/07/2008 5:00:00 AM
Wollongong FC's NSW Premier League title hunt will continue under lights when they host Sydney United at Crehan Park on Saturday night.

This weekend's game was originally scheduled for the usual Crehan Park kick-off time of 3pm on Sunday, but had to be moved to 7pm on Saturday due to a clash with a Tiger Turf Cup semi-final at Seymour Shaw Park.

Wollongong FC head into the deferred round 18 clash three points adrift of competition leaders Sutherland, but have a game in hand.

The club is hoping Crehan Park will still feel like home, despite the unusual kick-off time.

"If we get a big crowd, we'll entertain - we're the entertainers of the competition," Wollongong FC coach John Turner said.

"This is the first time in a long time one of Wollongong's sporting teams has been in the position to win a championship - hopefully the people will come out and support their team and support Wollongong."

With fifth-placed Sydney United still no guarantee of qualifying for the five-team finals series, Turner expects the invaders to bring a huge horde of supporters with them to Crehan Park on Saturday night.

"We want Crehan Park to still feel like home on Saturday night," Turner said.

"This game means a lot to Sydney United, but it means a lot more to us - we are still in the running for the premiership."

The Wolves have only played under lights at Crehan Park once this season - a penalty shoot-out loss to Granville Rage in round one of the Tiger Turf Cup.

Their four NSW Premier League games under lights have ended in one win, two draws and one loss.

The loss - 4-0 to Sydney Olympic - came at Belmore Sports Ground in round two. That was followed by two night-time draws - both 1-1 - against Blacktown City Demons and Marconi Stallions.

Wollongong FC's one win under lights was in their most recent night match - a 1-0 victory over Penrith-Nepean United at CUA Stadium.
